I believe India is in stage three of the demographic transition model. The country has a fairly high crude birth rate, but it is in decline, and the crude death rate is already low. This makes for an averagely high natural rate of increase, but with the decreasing crude birth rate, this will start to decrease as well. Also, the average life expectancy is 68.5 years which is a little above the gap of stage three, but only by a little bit. In addition, the population pyramid in 2015 of India suggests that the country is in stage three of the demographic transition model.
